Q: Why Choose Denver Green School?

A: Denver Green School is a Neighborhood Innovation School – meaning we implement our own unique program design, approved through a rigorous process by the Denver Public School Board. Our emphasis on project-based learning allows teachers and students to engage in relevant, self-directed, teacher-facilitated learning.

Q: What is meant by "Green" in Denver Green School?

A: DGS refers to the current national "Green Movement"- but we also believe that "green" has a deeper meaning. We believe that green must mean a focus on the whole student and the whole community. Of course, at the heart of that belief, is our focus on carbon footprint reduction and on environmental and social sustainability.

Q: How will core academic courses be taught and covered at Denver Green School?

A: Core academic classes such as: Reading, Math, Science, and History are taught using project-based and individualized learning classroom techniques. Research-based curriculum will be the foundational framework for how we meet and exceed Colorado standards.

Q: What grades will Denver Green School serve?

A: In the 2010-2011 school year, DGS serves 215 students in the following grades: ECE, kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 6th.

Fall 2011, DGS will serve ECE, K,1,2,3, 6th and 7th (335 students)

Fall 2012, DGS will serve ECE, K,1,2,3,4, 6th, 7th and 8th (430 students)

Fall 2013, DGS will serve ECE,K,1,2,3,4,5, 6th, 7th, 8th (550 students)

Q: Is DGS a Charter School?

A: No we are a neighborhood school. We are excited to serve students and families from our southeast Denver neighborhood. We are also excited to accept choice in students while slots are still available. For more info on choice applications, click here.

Q: What Special Education Programs will be offered at DGS? And what is your philosophy on Special Education ?

The Denver Green School will host an Autism Center Program that will:

Educate students grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade

Provide an interactive and individualized program addressing each student's unique strengths and areas of need.

Train para-professionals who work closely with classroom teachers

Communicate with families on a regular basis about student progress

Provide a supportive, safe, structured environment for our students
The Denver Green School Mild/Moderate Program will:

Provide individualized support to students with learning differences

Provide flexible instruction and small group settings to ensure academic success

Q: Will DGS provide before and after school programming?

A: Yes, we partner with Kaleidoscope Corner and programs for our after school program. There is a small fee based on a sliding scale. All of our programs are committed to engaging and inspiring children to enjoy learning, achieving, creating and interacting with others through a rich variety of educational, artistic and recreational activities.
